had 12 week scan today, it had died around 8 weeks, no heartbeat, how long before bleeding starts?

Immediately realised there was no heartbeat and wondered if it was the machine, but the doctor said no, there's no heartbeat, and that it must have died around 8 weeks. It looked fine but the placenta was too small to nourish it, which he said probably meant a chromosomal abnormality. So gutted. Have 15 month DS and this was a bit soon to get pg, but had had an early mc the month before so was happy to be pg again..

Has anyone else had similar and did the bleeding start soon after? There's no way I'm having a D and C, would have to have the medical (prostaglandin) thing instead to expel it..
any advice much appreciated... thanks!

thanks for asking how I am both of you, and hope you're ok pinkdolly!

Well after finding out on Wednesday, on Monday afternoon I started getting contractions, which got more painful, and then over 5 hours I had the miscarriage, it was so bloody painful, almost as bad as labour. maybe made it quicker that I'd had a baby before.. at one point I panicked as didn't know how I could get access to some pain relief. Luckily the placenta came out, which was massive, and then the pain stopped, the midwife came round to check me later in the evening (we're in Holland), and said it was a complete miscarriage as we saved it all in a pot (tmi!).. So that's it, will have a scan next week to see if everything came out, and then just look after myself for a bit. Been knackered cos we just moved here with 15 month DS and could do with lying on couch, but DH has been coming home from work early etc. hopefully next pg will be ok, will certainly wait a bit as this one was conceived immediately after early 6 weeks miscarriage and wondering if there could be a link..
