A mother & her 9 year old daughter were killed in a house fire in my town, just 5 days before Christmas.

They think the fire was caused by the Christmas lights, and it seems her fire alarm wasn't working.
By the time the firefighters got there, both mum & little girl were found dead in the mum's bed.
Her 13 year old son was on a sleepover at a friend's house.

I have just read local paper & realised the mother was somebody I knew. I used to talk to her lots when I saw her out in the town & remember her being pregnant & seeing her out with her children.
It has made me feel really sick. Poor family.

god that is so so sad...

Awful isn't it? I just can't stop thinking about it.

The son is now with his dad as the parents were separated.

Oh dear PC, that is just plain awful! We have not got local newspaper yet! (am having difficulty at remembering days) will buy tomorrow!

Hi Pinkchampagne,
I heard about the morning it happened, its dreadful. Poor poor things. We actually installed smoke detectors in our threes rooms years ago, I saw the pics in the Mercury yesterday, I did not recognize her. How are you these days? Poor Tessiebear has been poorly all over Christmas so not seen anything of her.

Pinkchampagne · 31/12/2007 15:53

hi triplets, how are you?

I heard about the fire quite soon after it happened, but it wasn't until I bought the local paper on saturday, that I realised it was someone who I knew.
She was a really nice person, and I knew her through a friend.
I used to see her quite often with her two children, and we would always stop & say hello. It is so tragic that her & her little girl have been killed.
Can't stop thinking about it, and have now got myself a new fire alarm.

Hi Pink,
The most important thing is to check the battery often, we are guilty about not doing that. We must meet up soon with Tessie, keep saying it. I heard you went to the meet up, was it good? I would like to have gone, would love to meet Marslady, do you know her? She features largely on out multiple thread, shes a doula, lives in London, shes a terrfic support to us all!

Pinkchampagne · 31/12/2007 16:11

I tested the battery on my fire alarm the other day, but my friend who is married to a fireman, said it was a good idea for me to have another one upstairs in the boys room.
I have been quite paranoid since hearing of the fire, and I always make sure I don't leave the tree lights on.

It would be great to meet up soon. I meant to see Tess before Christmas, but of course they have all had this horrible bug, poor things. Why do these things always strike at Christmas?

The meet up was good, and yes mars was there. She has been to the last three, although I think I only really got round to talking to her properly on the first meet up I went to, as there are so many people there.
She is lovely & full of personality, just as she comes across online!
You will have to try to make next years meet up!
