Something instead of flowers for bereaved friend?

I'd to send something to a very close friend who has lost her mum in the last few days, is there anything other than flowers I could send?

I was wondering about a basket of chocolates or some comfort food. I know this isn't going to make her feel better really but I just want her to know I'm thinking of her. Of course a bunch of flowers would do that too but just seems a bit naff.

Any ideas?

How about flowers and chocs? Some pretty coloured flowers might cheer her up as well as some decent chocolates.

a book of poems?
a rose bush to plant to remember the happy times

Flowers and chocs together sounds good. Can't imagine the rose bush for this particular friend but it would be a lovely idea in other circumstances.
