Family members grieving differently

I feel the need to prioritise myself and how I need to grieve, but it's really difficult because I know other family members will think I am being selfish.

Does anybody have any advice on how to handle this? I feel like I need to bring it up in advance of anniversaries and similar. At the moment I feel like other people are forcing their grief and how they grieve on top of me and it's unbearable.

I think you just say ‘I know we all grieve differently and I want to support you but this is what I need to do and I hope you understand.’ Then do what you need to do, and don’t look back. You need to look after yourself before you can look after anyone else, and your grief is as valid as theirs. Grief is self focused but there’s no right way to do it. There’s just your way, the right way for you.💐

Agree 100% with Stunned. You have to tell people what you need to do and you must not feel guilty about prioritising yourself.Flowers

It’s so hard isn’t it. I can hardly breathe today for grief, but I am keeping it inside so not to upset others. Do what’s right for you OP, and sorry you are going through this Flowers it’s a really tough time.
