Yesterday I was overwhelmed by the support I recieved on mumsnet, I cannot thank everyone enough.
My husband took his own life 3 months ago after developing a gambling disorder after he was furloughed just before christmas. He passed away from gambling related suicide on 22nd April. We have two amazing children. I am so distraught and now face life as a single parent. It is already tough. I had no idea my husband was gambling and only found out once I received his phone back from the coroners 3 weeks after his death. I was completely in the dark and had no idea why he left this earth, which was complete torture. Now I know, I want to make sure it doesn't happen again.
The one thing that is keeping me going and helping me stay focused is a petition I have started called Luke'sLaw which is asking the government to 'Ban Free Bets'. They are not free. The reason why I am doing this is because my husband started his gambling hole with a free bet and won some money. He then used the money on another bet and won again until he started losing. In a short space of time, he was getting out loans and funding his addiction with money he was not able to pay back. He must have felt helpless and completely consumed for him to then end his life.
