Mum's Partner of 18 Years Died This Morning

Hello.

My mum's partner (not married or civil partners) died from covid this morning. Thankfully she was able to be with him when he passed.

We've asked the bereavement office at the hospital to call us, but she wasn't given any paperwork or anything.

He has no living family that we know of, no will, and no estate to speak of except for under £5k in savings.

I don't know what we can expect to happen next - can we organise his funeral for him?

I’m sorry for your loss. Have you been contacted by anyone? The registry office for deaths should contact you, to let you know the process for registration and also if a post mortem is needed. Have you thought about an undertaker, a preference for which company to use? If so call them, they will guide you through the process, you can also apply to have the funds in his account to be used for funeral costs.

Once you have the death certificate you can complete this, they cover everything. If your mum isn’t internet savvy then she can ask the registry office person to do it for her, www.gov.uk/after-a-death/organisations-you-need-to-contact-and-tell-us-once
