hCG levels dropped - any hope?

Quick history - had mmc mid Aug, nothing happened naturally so had evac 3rd Sept and bled for a few days then nothing. I started bleeding again but not really much at all about 2 weeks ago, then got bfp last Fri so doc did blood tests,
on Mon hCG was 47, on Wed (got result today) had dropped to 24
Am I right in thinking I am definately losing this pregnancy too?

Hi JJ - remember you from some mc threads at the time I had my first. No I didn't do a test after. Was + on the day I found out (13 Aug) but didn't have evac until 3 weeks later. Could it still be + 10 weeks after losing? Doc said it was too high a reading for it to be anything left over.
My boobs are really sore too and I am pissed off there is no reason...

oh dear, yes, i remember, jules. how are you doiing? i do think you should be asking about retained products again, jacksti, just to be sure, even if it is terribly unlikely.

jackstini, i had something similar happen to me, in feb 2004 had a d&c after a mmc, then roughly about 10 weeks later got a bfp, but blood tests confirmed that the hcg hormone was very low and dropping. the hospital said it was very difficult to say what exactly happened but put it down to a blighted ovum, ie and egg had fertilised but failed to implant, gives just enough hcg to give a bfp but then doesn't progress any further.

exactly a year after all that i gave birth to ds , hth and gives you some hope for the future.

JJ - I meant I had a bfp on the day I found out about the mmc. (13 Aug) Had my first bfp 4 weeks before that on July 15th - don't know if this makes any difference? My head is all over the place yes, so sorry you had to go through this too.
