Does anyone know how I can find records of a stillborn baby please?

Apologies if this is the wrong place :(

I know the hospital they were stillborn in and also the date. I know that they were told baby was cremated alongside another unknown adult when they rang to make arrangements to bury baby but not the date of cremation or the funeral directors.

I've contacted the local crematorium but they could find no record.

Obviously because of the time the organ scandal case terrifies me.

Please help I need to know where they are :(

I can't answer OP, I just wanted to say how sorry I am for your loss.

There is a register of stillbirths so you can request a stillbirth certificate just like you would a birth certificate from the local registrar.

If you think the stillborn baby is likely to have been buried, I would suggest contacting the owner of likely cemeteries.

Sometimes this will be the local Council, other times its churches or private owners.

I'm so sorry you haven't had a clear answer yet x

One hospital I have worked with had a chaplain who helped trace where a stillborn baby was buried many, many years previously. They have helped numerous quite elderly women trace their babies now.

What records are you wanting? There won’t be many, to be honest. You might find something in your own maternity records.

Ask PALs and speak with the hospital chaplains as a starting point.

I think you also need to remember the organ scandal affected very, very few babies overall and only a few centres were involved. It might help to ask the trust via PAls what the specific situation was at the trust where you gave birth was.

Thank you.
I believe he was cremated along with an adult who was being cremated on the same day but obviously not 100% sure on the facts of this. I've been told this was common.

CherryPavlova I just want to know where he is that's all. We have his cert but have no idea where he is and it's hard .

I am really sorry but as it was over 25 years ago your medical records around the birth may no longer be available. The hospital your baby was born in should have a brereavement office, call switchboard, and they usually work with the same funeral directors for many years. They will have records of where your son's ashes are. Good luck in your search. Flowers
