My cousin just died and I need your song suggestions.

My cousin had been missing for 8 months. On Valentine's Day his remains were found near a school. My uncle (his father) set up a group message to inform us of this but he let us know by posting the link to a Nick Cave song, and the the news broke the next day. It's been such an awful weekend. I've not known the words to say, and I know there are no words that can make this any better for him. He lives in America and we live in England so he's feel more isolated than ever. My Dad can't get out there to be with him and isn't computer savvy and is so scared to call as he doesn't know what to say. My uncle has been sending me a lot of YouTube songs to express how he is feeling. I wondered if anyone had any song suggestions I could send him back as he clearly needs his music right now. He's been sending a lot of Nick Cave and Iron & Wine. Does anyone have any suggestions of songs that help with grief (I realise it won't actually help with what he's feeling right now I just don't know how to word it what I mean) He's always been a deep person and loved Dylan, Tom Waits ect.

My dad died recently. My brother sent me a Spotify link to Texas Girl at the Funeral of her Father by Randy Newman.

Also listen to Solid Air by John Martyn - which is a song he wrote about Nick Drake- who is also worth listening to. Sorry for your loss. How did he die?

Thank you. I'll check those out. Nobody knows yet. It was a missing persons case.

Sorry for your loss.

I love You Can Close Your Eyes. I have the Brooke Fraser version, it's so lovely, very moving.

I don’t have any song suggestions I’m
afraid, but your dad needs to call his brother.

I listened to 'Only the good die young' by Queen on repeat when my brother died.

He called him at the weekend. Things got a little crazy over that way between my uncle and his ex wife so my dad called, well FaceTimed. He managed to get a little smile out of him. I'm glad he called him.

The Johnny Cash version of Bird on a Wire by Leonard Cohen

rackhampearl · 28/02/2019 23:48

Great Suggestions thank you. I think the Solid Air is very fitting. He was a troubled young man.

As soon as I clicked in this I thought of Nick Cave.

Push the Sky Away is another good one.
