My dad passed away on Tuesday night. We have selected The Parting Glass for a reading and my mum wants a Season for Everythjng. I'm not keen on the latter- does anyone have any suggestions I could put to her?

My condolences on your loss Flowers
Your father that has died but he was your mothers husband and he was there long before you.
Yet your mother cannot choose what she wants for her husbands funeral.
I could provide several options but I think you should have respect for mothers choice.

Sorry, maybe I didn't make it clear. She has asked for my opinion and input into it. She isn't dead set on it and may prefer it in the musical form as we leave the service.

If you knew my mother you would know I wouldn't be changing her opinion if she really wants it! Grin

The Lake Isle of Innisfree, Yeats
Do not stand by my grave and weep, Frye

I've heard both of these read at funerals and found them very touching.

Sorry for the loss of your Dad. Thanks {thanks]

💐 for you all

We had ‘Death Is Nothing At All’ by Henry Scott Holland at my Dad’s funeral.

I read do not stand at my grave and weep for my mum's funeral.

I chose at it as it reminded me that although mum was gone, her sayings, & experiences she shared with me will last me forever.

Sorry for your loss xx

The Ecclesiastes reading is really
Lovely I think. Maybe you could look at the many different versions available- modern word ones or older traditional ones. Maybe one will suit you and your mums tastes. I personally love the song but it feels a little happy for a funeral- nothing wrong with happiness though.

Stop all the Clocks is another fabulous poem for a funeral. Especially from your mums point of view.

Sorry for your loss

I read "Remember Me" by Anthony Dowson for my DF's funeral.

So sorry for your loss, When my DH passed away in October I was very luck to have a close friend play Andre Rieu Con Te Partiro ( Time To Say Good Bye ) on her cello .
It is a piece of music that most people will recognise even if you / they do not 'do' classical music ,

The reading / poems I picked were Death by Joyce Grenfell , The Worlds Greatest Need by C Miles , and The Journey Of My Life by Rabindranath Tagore .

At the end of the service I had Elton John Nikita play as this was DHs favourite song to get up and sing to at karaoke .

The Joyce Grenfell poem is beautiful.

We had Joyce Grenfell at my mother's funeral, and then had a v upbeat hymn. It was lovely.

We had His Journey’s Just Begun by Ellen Brenneman at my Dad’s funeral. I personally think it’s a beautiful poem.

If I should go by Joyce Grenfell
