Did you choose a cardboard coffin? Would you recommend it? Wicker sounds really painful to carry and heavy as well?

Shock at cardboard being more expensive than a traditional one!

They're definitely not when you shop around online (I dont think the Funeral Director like it but they will let you supply your own coffin).

Places like cardboardcoffincompany.com/ are much cheaper than the local funeral director.

Wicker v cardboard is preference. You can get nice finishes on cardboard like plain white or woodgrain effect.

We went with cardboard for my dad a couple of years ago and left a pile of coloured marker pens in there with him so anyone visiting him before the cremation had the option to add a message to the coffin if they wanted to

A few thought it a little weird but it turned into a couple of quite long multi family member visits to see him and draw pics and write messages all over it while chatting to him and each other and was actually very therapeutic in helping to say goodbye and grieve

We had a cardboard one for my mum.

It was delivered straight to our house and we spent a loving few days decorating it with flowers, leaves, butterflies etc and friends and relatives come over to write messages on it. We sat around it lots talking to her, although she wasn’t in it, and then lastly we put painted hands prints on it and lipstick kisses.

Once we had finished the undertakers came and collected it.

Natural coffins at about £250 for cardboard, under £360 for bamboo, delivered to your funeral director here

Im the founder of thinkwillow.com we offer Cardboard and wicker coffins directly to the public. Unfortunately this is quite a common story, it's not unheard of Funeral Directors to add a 500%+ markup on coffins. Its the area where they make the most profit

My Dad had his wish of a cardboard coffin - uncovered. He always said bury me in a cardboard box and would have been delighted to hear the scandalised whispers of his parents friends debating if it was actually cardboard
