A friend of dh and mine died very suddenly in Sep 06, aged 47. I called her mum today to check on her (of course, she is devastated) and now I am really and and . None of her friends ever call the mum, her sister only calls when she needs money again, the colleagues have behaved like sh** . I just feel down at the moment. I miss my friend and feel soooo for her mum. Sorry, rant over.

How awful. I'm sorry you miss your friend.

Many people are unable to talk to those who are grieving - I presume that's why they've kept away. Easier to duck the situation entirely than risk upsetting the mother, or themselves for that matter.

I'm glad you are keeping in touch with her though. So nice for her to be able to talk about her daughter with someone who knew her, it doesn't matter if it's a bit sad, because at the same time, it's so good to remember her.
