Hi,
My lovely mum died 6 weeks ago, since then Dad has spiralled into depression, not eating/drinking properly or cleaning. He's not walking and has become incontinent and lost 3 stone in weight, I visited him last week and he was unrecognisable and surrounded by mouldy food Sad. I phoned for an emergency GP appointment who checked him over and he was admitted to hospital. He has been in nearly a week now, and doesn't seem much better. He's dehydrated and as of today not passing urine. Refusing the food supplement drinks. I'm so worried. What can I do? I just buried my mum, I can't lose my dad too. I'm 16 weeks pregnant and I need him ☹️

Ah hotpink I'm so sorry . What a difficult and sad situation. So sorry to hear about your mum. No advice but I couldn't read and run Flowers hope your Dad gets the care he needs. Please be kind to yourself, it sounds so very stressful. Im not sure there's much you can do except do what you're doing and be there for him and try to get some support for yourself. Have you a dh/dp? Siblings?Wishing you all the best.

Bumping for you

Chickydoo · 21/07/2017 20:53

Oh you poor thing, what a horrid situation.
How old is your Dad? Does he have medical problems? He must be grieving so much for your Mum.
Sending a hug to you

I'm so sorry you're going through this. It sounds like hell. Dealing with the loss of your mum and now this AND pregnant.

What have the Drs advised? How old is your dad?

I guess all you can do is be there, keep talking to him, let him know you still need him. I haven't got any experience but wanted to say something to show support. I'm sure much wiser posters will be along shortly Flowers

Thank you. Dad is 75 today. Nothing wrong with him 6 weeks ago, absolutely fine. I've visited every day, we live in a village 15 miles away and I don't drive, but have been getting buses, even when I am there he spends most time just sleeping 😌 and it's just breaking my heart.

I have 2 brothers - mum's sons from first marriage. Dad only has me though - they're not close. I have a DH but he's a HGV driver and works away a lot. He's visiting Dad tonight though.

He is in deep shock and grief, I guess. All you can do is show him your love and care. Maybe talk about your DM even if it is painful. I am so sorry you have this added stress and worry. If h can get through the first few months, he may begin to find purpose again.
