How long after an ERPC will a pregnancy test be clear?

How long do you have to wait to test after an ERPC so that it is not just showing up the miscarriage?

Funny you should ask that...I was wondering the exact same thing tonight.

A week after bleeding stops. I think if you get a positive after a few weeks, there could be something left, but that would be more likely with a natural m/c. So if positive after after ERPC would just be hormone levels, which can last up to 6 weeks. Hope that helps, Why not ask your doctor too, you should have a follow up appointment.

I had a blood test 9 days after my last ERPC (was still bleeding) and had hCG of 98, so it would still have showed up as a faint positive. Had lots and lots of hormone though. After my first ERPC hCG was >5 6 days later.

I was also wonderimg about people's experinecs of bleeding after an ERPC. I have had three, and after each of the first to the bleeding was light, brown, and stopped in a few days. This last one has however been different, it has been 11 days now and I have had heavy red bleeding, which is only just beginning to tail off but is still there, which is conmcrening me a bit.

Nicola (just seen this) - I bled for the best part of (no actually for) 2 weeks after this one, though the last half a week or so wasn't really heavy. If the bleeding continues to tail off and you are pain-free, I would suggest it's OK. Have you had B-hcG levels checked?

Nicola63 · 18/10/2006 12:42

Although the bleeding is tailing off somewhat, I am getting funny pains, so I called the obstetrician yesterday and he wants me to have a scan tomorrow to check for any retianed products. I have also started, on his advice, on an antibiotic, in case there is some infection.

I am heartily fed up with things going awry! I really want to get back to normal. I am also dreading seeing the scan man again, reminder of horrible moments finding my babies were dead. But here we go, I have to get this sorted out I suppose.

oh I'm sorry Nicola. You've been through so much without it going on and on like this.

Thinking of you - hope the pains stop and the scan's clear.

Nicola63 · 19/10/2006 13:33

Oh well, the scan showed some clotting and possibly tissue in the uterus, so its off to hospital again tomorrow for another scrape. I will just be glad if this now ends the whole thing. I am tired and fed up and am spending the rest of the day in bed!

will think of you tomorrow.

Thank you, FIT. I know you have been through some difficult times too. This is just a nuisance, not being able to draw a line under this and move forward yet (emotionally or physically), and feeling so unwell and tired with it! Still, maybe after tomorrow things will start to get better.

Well, I had the second ERPC, he found there was in fact a blood clot, it had calcified and become "fatty and grisley" in his words (charming!) and was probably infected (sorry if tmi!). We await the microbiology on the clot, but meanwhile I am on broad spectrum antibiotics. The bleeding does now seem to have slowed lots, but its all still painful. I am in bed, feel crap, and being cared for by a very nice and very concerened DH.

Still, maybe this will in fact be the end of this part of the story (lets hope!). Its no-one's fault, this complication apparently just happens sometimes.
