My best friend died 17 years ago today

And I still miss him

Silly really as its been so long. Some years are better than others but this year my heart is breaking.

He was only twenty when he died. Obviously life moves on. i have a DH & family now but I still miss him. Some people are just irreplaceable I guess.

I just wanted to say sorry for you loss Seriously. My Nan died a week ago and I am full of regrets. I hope you are past that; it's very painful.

January is a horrible month. Lots of people seem to die during it, it's cold....
Be kind to yourself today, have a good cry if you need one. It really is heart breaking.

I'm sorry to hear this. he must have been very special. It is awful when someone you love dies, and someone young too. A life half lived. Are you still in touch with his family?

Don't be afraid to seek help if you are struggling with this. I hope you can remember the good times.

It's not silly at all, it's really bitter sweet though, I hope that you feel blessed for having had such a special irreplaceable friend. My dd is 15 and her friend died when she was 6, we were talking about her yesterday and dd asked me if I ever thought about her, think she was quite surprised when I said often because we don't speak of her often as dd finds it too upsetting.

Of course you still miss him, he was your best friend. He must have been a very special person to have had such an affect on you.

My dd lost her best friend last year, she was 17. It has had such a huge affect on her(and many other people), I can image my dd will still be missing her dear friend in 17 years too. It's a sad thought but I think it's the price we pay when you are so very close to someone.

I hope you can speak to someone in RL about your lovely friend.x

I'm so sorry for your loss Seriously. My best friend died a year ago on 31st Jan, aged only 43. I am really not looking forward to next Wednesday but I will spend it remembering her, looking at photos and having lunch with other friends who loved and miss her too. Misery loves company.

Share his memories with anyone who will listen - even if they never met him. Our memories keep them alive and with us.

It's strange having lost a friend so young. People have asked me if I think we would still be friends now. I find that's hard because It's as if to say you may have lost touch anyway type thing, which really isn't the same at all.

Some people really get in your soul and he was one of those.

Of course you will miss him.
My DB died when he was 17 and he has now been dead longer than he was alive, which makes me feel so sad.
But we can't change what was in the past, we can only look forward.
I was only looking at some photos on facebook yesterday of him and it made me feel sad but glad that he was my brother, because of how many people still remember him today. Every year, on the anniversary og his death, lots of friends post statuses about him.
Just because someone was only alive for a short while doesn't mean they haven't had a positive impact on many people's lives.
