she was 15 years older than me, my godmother, I was a bridesmaid at her very glamorous society wedding in 77. She was brought up in a huge house in the country which was always full of beautiful delight hippy young people and lots of dogs. It always seemed to be a summer afternoon when we visited. She travelled overland to India in the 1960s, brought me back jossticks, a cedarwood box and a camel made of wood and llama wool. She was what I wanted to be when I was older but I reached my teens in the ugly 80s.
She moved to south Africa after her marriage Nd I only visited her their once but she came over here quite often. Her dd was my bridesmaid in 92.
She had ms for a long time and last night she gave up the fight. I keep thinking of an old cine film of her and her brothers and my db jumping down a sand dune in ireland when they were all in their mid-teens. So full of life. I feel so so sad today.
RIP Helen xxx
