Bereavement

hcg level seems to have increased even though nothing there? - a bit long

Well - I have been a bit quiet over the last few days as I haven't been feeling 100%. Last night I had such bad pains in my right ovarian area I couldn't sleep so rang hospital this morning to see what I should do especially as pain coincided with end to very heavy flow of blood. They said to come in for a scan to rule out an ectopic pregnancy.

Dropped boys at nursery, toddled into hospital and saw doctor. She went through my history, did an internal which pointed to a very tender ovary, and tested my urine sample. Surprise, surprise it came back strongly positive. I was absolutely gobsmacked as even though I know the hormone hangs around for a while, I was only just two/three days over due when the bleeding started. And last test I had was only very, very faintly positive and I had a reading of 7 hcg on blood sample which was almost non-existant. The doctor asked me if I had had sex since last week - as if!!!! And sent me for scan. The scan was fine and pain eased considerably which they think was due to the prodding assisting a suspect cyst to rupture. A tiny part of me so wanted to still be pregnant that I really hoped that something would be there but obviously after 8 days of bleeding, there was nothing. I was so gutted.

Anyway one blood test was carried out today which had a reading of 50 hcg (still very small but explains why I have felt so out of sorts) and I have to go back on Saturday for another blood test to see if the level is dropping. Then it's a wait for the results on Monday.

I know I cannot be pregnant but this is so unsettling. I don't know why the hormones seem to have increased unless the initial results have been written down incorrectly. I guess it is a case of wait and see.

On a positive, I have my miscarriage appointment on Monday but the bloods won't be back in time for the consultation but that is another issue.

Sorry for the moan and if anybody can't shed any light on this, just keep your fingers crossed for me that everything will soon get back to normal.

Oh Eyelash, I'm so sorry. This is torture. I don't know why the level has risen I'm afraid. Could they not have shed light on this at all at the hospital? I know my HCG stayed very high for about 7-8 weeks after both m/c's and I felt pg all that time. I just don't know why you got 7 and then 50. Could the cyst perhaps have lead your body to think there was still some pgcy left as I know that mine took so long to come down because of retained products? It's so frustrating and after you have been through so much, there's something else to add to it. I am thinking of you and hope that your appointment goes well on Monday. Please take care and here if you need us. xxxx

Thanks to you both.

I do feel much better this morning owing to 9 hours solid sleep - the best in ages. I just hope tomorrow's bloods show that my levels are falling. I have no more pain either which is interesting. DH wonders if it was just a surge at the end which combined the pain and hcg levels but it should be clearer on Monday.

We are going away tomorrow for the weekend so really looking forward to that.

Quackers - hope you are feeling well and now settling into your pregnancy. If you are in Liverpool some time and fancy meeting up let me know.

Had my appointment today and hcg levels havw risen again but pregnanct test was negative. So they have taken more blood to test overnight. The levels haven't risen enough to suggest a viable pregnancy but I hope they will have dropped in this sample. I will give you an update tomorrow once I know more.

Well - bloods from yesterday showed hcg has increased again but only to 87 this time. And urine pregnancy test was positive today! I have spent all day at the hospital being passed from pillar to post but they have been really good. No answers though except it is not uncommon. The scan was completely clear in any case. Sibble's friend had the same and so did my sil's friend.

Next stept is to have some more blood taken on Friday and take it from there.

Thanks for all the messages and I will keep you all posted.

Eyelash, it must be very ditressing to have your bloods going up. I would take comfort from the fact that your scan was clear, so there is nothing left to cause infection. I had high HCG for aboput 6 weeks as there were still 'products' left even after D and C. It was awful and I got an infection. You seem to have a very supportive team at LWP, doing everything they can for you. I'm glad you are getting the treatmeent you deserve.

Sorry not to have posted sooner but have had relations staying.

Well - had another bloodtest over the weekend and hcg levels have dropped slightly. Such a relief! I need to have two more tests (one today) to make absolutely sure my levels continue to drop.

It has been a surreal experience still feeling pregnant but knowing nothing was there but thank god it has righted itself.

Thanks for all your support.

hello eyelash, i'm pleased things seem to be righting themselves at last. I really feel for you - when i had my mc earlier on this year, one of the worst things was just waiting for the physical bit to be over, so i do sympathise. look after yourself.

Yippee - not only did we have a lovely xmas day but my hcg levels are almost not existant and I started a proper period yesterday. Period a bit surreal as I had only stopped bleeding from miscarriage properly on Monday. I am amazed to have a period so quickly but all systems go in January.

Thank you all so much for your support.
