I have just heard about this incredibly well publicised Hmm consultation that the DWP is carrying out into bereavement benefits.

if you're widowed, or in a long term relationship with children and your partner died, you might like to respond to this. I have only just heard about it and haven't had time to read all the details but wanted to post it here asap.

Go here for the start of the document, this should also allow you to comment online once you've registered.

bumping

Another bump. If you're widowed you should look at this and respond it's pretty horrifying. One year's bereavement benefit, then you're shuffled over to Universal Credit ... which will apparently take into account the circumstances associated with being bereaved Hmm.

I'm not saying widow(er)s should be exempt from work, I just object to being told that a year is all you get to qualify as "bereaved".

Could you move this to Chat or some other board perhaps? I am forwarding the link to two friends who would be affected and I don't think have heard about the consultation, I'm sure they would have mentioned it as we have been talking a lot about the cuts!

Thanks runaway, I've asked MNHQ if they can do anything to help publicise it though only 24 hours left to respond anyway.

The plans shouldn't affect anyone already in receipt of these payments, but if we don't stand up and shout, the next poor unfortunate people, who don't yet know they're going to go through this living hell, will find themselves royally shafted once their year of being officially bereaved is up.

what bugged me is that as myself and dh (rip) are under 45 , that i dont qualify for the bereavement allowance that i would have got if over 45 for 52 weeks ie a year
