I'm not sure what I'm looking for but my dad passed away in October at 61 its his birthday next or would be his birthday and he really loved all the card/cake and meal out that goes with a birthday.

I think I'd like a card for mum and a little gift or something to remember him on his birthday do they do such cards?

Also any ideas how others have got through the first birthday would be good

The first birthday after my dad died, we planted a tree in mums garden in memory. We also laid the urn of his ashes under the tree. ( mum did not want to scatter the ashes )

Oh that's a good idea the garden was such a big part of his and mums life will go and get one to plant together

So glad you like the idea. I can't remember what tree it was we got, but it has got quite big now.
Mum has also bought a stone plaque to go under the tree.
The " firsts " of everything is very difficult when you have been bereaved.
Soon after dad died I compiled a photograph album of his life, it was a very therapeutic thing to do.
Hope you and your family manage to take some comfort by remembering your dad on his birthday.
