hcg therapy - anyone know what it is?

a dear friend of mine has just had her second miscarraige adn has been given a sheet or facts about recurrent miscarriage and some of hte causes etc and things that can help. One thing mentioned is HCG therapy. Does anyone know what it is or what it entails please?

Hope I can help a little. bHCG is beta Human Chorionic Gonadotropin and is released in early pregnancy to help the fetus develop. It is what makes the pregnancy test show positive. Maybe your friend didn't have enough to keep her pregnancy viable. A couple of years ago I had an abnormal pregnancy where I was producing incredibly high levels of bHCG, and the pregnancy also ended in miscarriage. So my guess is that you need a very specific amount, not too little, not too much, for a successful pregnancy.

The st Mary's website has info on this, they are the gurus of pgcy loss! They don't really rate this type of thing as it can just prolong a pg that has already been 'desstined' to not go any further. However they do say in some cases it can be helpful. I think they have to get it very very early. Have alook, its a great site!

Tommy's is another site to look at. It's about prem babies, miscarriage etc.
