Songs/Hymns for non-religous service

MIL died yesterday and we are busy arranging her cremation.

She didn't have any leanings towards any particular religion and with the exception of weddings/funerals etc never attended church.

The undertaker has suggested a humanist service and has asked us to consider what music we'd like.

We are at a loss and any suggestions gratefully received.

It's difficult: hymns are intrinsically religious but other songs may not be well known, and I'm assuming you will want people to sing along.

My best suggestions would be to choose from the well-known hymns, especially if they also have non-churchy associations. "Abide with me"? Or hymns she had at her wedding (if any?)

Wishing you the best at such a difficult time.

So sorry to hear about your mil.

My Mum wasn't religious either (she was creamted) and we didn't have hymns; we chose 3 pieces of classical music that were appropriate.

My thoughts are with you.

Thanks everyone.

We eventually went with 3 songs

Eva Cassidy: Songbird
Judy Garland: Somewhere over the rainbow
Sting: Fields of Gold

It was a beautiful service, all about MIL's life and her love of her son and grandchildren.
