Helping DS with the death of his grandfather

My Dad passed away last august after a very short illness. DS (4) was very close to him. DS says that granddad is in heaven - which is fine if that's what he wants to believe. but he keeps asking me to phone heaven so that we can ask granddad to come back to us.

Any ideas how I can get him to understand the finality of death, as he gets very upset when I explain (again) that granddad can't back, despite us wishing that he could.

A book called Badgers Partings gift may help, as may a smaller book called Waterbugs and dragonflies, which deals with why people don#t come back.

Helped my dc with the loss of my dad last year.
Sorry for your loss

You could try reading Michael Rosen's Sad Book with him - especially as you have both lost someone very special.
