my ds is currently asleep on me (21mo) and has been for 2.5hours! this week he did one day with 10mins nap, one 35 mins, one 1 hour...you get the picture!

he's due to start pre-school full time in sept - i have a nanny starting in 10days time as i'm back to work f-t, too - is there any point in trying to drop the nap or should i tell her just to let him be?

what about pre-school though? they don't nap, do they? yikes!

2.1 - I was gutted! I'd got used to having a couple of hours to get chores done and I had quite a while before he started playgroup.

thank you everyone - how interesting! obviously - just like everything else - completely depends on the individual.

ds1 - almost 3.5 yrs, couldn't start preschool until he was 3 as he wouldn't be able to cope with afternoon sessions as it would have been nap time so we had to wait till he could do mornings
ds2 - is 2.5yrs now and still likes to have 1.5 hours (after which I wake him)... long may it continue!

come september our preschool is doing all day care but part of that they have to offer a rest/nap area by law. At the boys open plan day nursery they had naps on mats on the floor, both managed fine to sleep

My DS is 3.7 and still naps for at least 1.5 hrs in the afternoon.

Lots of my friend's kids dropped their naps around 18 months . Thankfully my ds is 2.9 and still has a good 90 minute nap after lunch most days, he can go without it but it does mean he is VERY emotionl and easily tipped into tantrum mode from about 5pm until bedtime. Much easier to manage with a nap!

DT1 - 2.1 years
DT2 - 2.1 years by default
However, they both have a nap couple of times a week.
