Toddler afraid of her bike seat- what to do?

My DD is 21 months. We recently bought her a child's bike seat so that my DH can take her out to the park etc. DH was really looking forward to it, and it would have given me some time to myself!

But DD is not having it. She seemed quite interested the first time she saw it, and had a little go (being pushed around first, then with DH riding the bike).

The second time, however, she was very upset- crying, screaming, determined not to go in it. We tried putting her teddy in it, she enjoyed watching but still adamant that she wasn't having a go herself.

Any suggestions for what to do next? She's never had a problem with anything like this before and is happy to go in various backpacks/slings/car seats etc etc.

It might be that she just wasn't in the mood or it might be one of those irrational toddler fear things. You could try taking it off the bike and just leaving it around to see if she takes interest in it of her own accord and go from there. Do you think it might be to do with wearing a helmet?

All I can say is keep trying! My dd (now 2) happily goes in it, watches the world go by and even falls asleep!

Try and make it a bit of an adventure too.

Good luck [smile}

Thanks for your replies. It's not the helmet- she loves the helmet and is quite happy to walk around wearing it!

Will try the idea of getting her used to the seat when it's not on the bike.
