2 year old driving me MAD

My 2years 4months DS doesn't seem to answer questions and it drives me MAD. He repeats back what I say or talks about something else! For example:

Me - "Do you want an apple?"
DS - "Apple"

Me - "Did you have a good day?"
DS - "Digger!"

Is this normal when their speech is developing? He is a very happy, highly active, busy boy but sometimes I think

Hahaha! That's hilarious. DD has been doing just that this evening (and she's three and a half - will it never end?)...

Me: Look, Mammy's eating her porridge.
DS: Mammy eats eyes.
Me: No, Mammy doesn't eat eyes, Mammy eats porridge.

DS 5 still can't answer questions!! Classic tonite:

Me: Do you want a drink of OJ?

DS @ remember when we....15 minute explanation of the route to a restaurant who we went with where we sat what we ate and you guessed it - the OJ he had with the cocktail decorations!!!

What he meant and I eventually extracted from him - yes please mummy and can I have it like a cocktail with a curly straw!!!

but then again I've answered his questions of can I have a chocolate with please put your school shoes on it's time to leave so it's not really surprising!!!
