Hi - first time mum with DS aged 6 months.
1st time he's had a temerature too. (I'm useless sorry!)
it was 37.9 about 35 mins ago & I gave him calpol (its normally about 35.6 ish.)
took him out of grobag & we're sitting up as he's a it restless.
it's now just read 38.5c
I've taken baby grow off & he's in his vest. should I do anything else? & at what point do you need to call doctor?

(sorry again, like i said, I'm useless.)

x

to be fair, because both have always said roughly the same, if he's seemed fine i've never been concerned with it being a fraction low. it's just the high readings tonight & hi obviously being poorly & hot that worried me. His temp seems to be coming down nicely though now & he's much more fidgity (which is more him.). x

Oh, S&C...hope you'll both get a rest tonight and indeed it doesn't seem like it's anything serious. Still, watch out for the signs Belle has described.

If you're breastfeeding then keep offering milk as it is the best thing for him. Water is fine if he is asking for it but breastmilk will keep him hydrated as well.

Actually skin to skin contact can also help cool him down because a mum's body temperature will adjust by 1 degree to try and control her baby's (not sure what age this is true up until though)
