Does your 3 year old still use a comforter?

Hello experienced and wise MNers,

My 3.3 DD uses her long sleeve top as a comforter, pulling the right (always the right) sleeve over her hand and twisting it before putting it up to sniff (she calls it snuffling!)....does anyone else's DCs do this?

She started appearing to like the feel of fabric on her nose/mouth when she was 4 months when I noticed her almost sucking the sleeve of her sleepsuit. Now she only wears long sleeve tops (even in summer) and will get upset if a top doesn't have a good enough sleeve.

My DS is 17 months and always sucks his left thumb whilst fiddling with the long label on his Ted (Ikea rules in his world, lovely long labels).

Have other peoples' DC grown out of using a comforter in their own time or has assistance been required?

Many thanks in advance,

from a 32 year old who still occasionally under stress still enjoys sucking her thumb despite having worn braces as a teenager AND adult! (I had a lot of pressure from my parents to stop...not sure that approach worked with me)

ds 6.5 has his dee-dee ( muslin) has to be tumble dried so it is correct softness and he sleeps with it under his ear as his pillow is noisy luckily we have about 6 of them. Also has to have little ted which is really manky but apparently has the correct smell.......

Please don't worry its lovely for them to have something they are so attached to

Mine have always had a teddy and dummy, The dummys I took off them at about 2, 10months and 2 (3 kids) but their teddies remain with them but have to remain in their beds (they take with them for sleepovers. The 2 yr old is allowed his teddy out sometimes when he's tired but I discourage naps for him in day now. I mainly ban them taking them out as they lose them though I have spares of their first teddies my 6 yr old now has a slightly bigger tiger she adopted when she was about 3 and my 4 yr old has a duck which I cant get spares of)

Suggestion could you possibly designate one top which she is allowed to suck/cuddle at home gradually wean to just nights and discourage the sucking of other tops.

May be hard to break I took no2's dummy off him at 10 months and sometimes I catch him sucking his coat collar etc. whereas my first didn't suck anything once that was gone at 2
