When will this 'phase' ever end?! For a good year now my ds has been very quick to hit any other child who shows any interest in something in his possession. At his absolute worst he's bitten other children - this has only happened half a dozen times but I am mortified by it. We consistently punish him by removing him from the situation, say 'no hitting' and sit him on the naughty step. If he does it again I take him home. I also constantly praise him when he's playing nicely.

He's now at pre-school - it's going well but I asked today how he'd been and the teacher said fine but there had been 'a couple of tussles' - I can imagine exactly what had gone on. I'm sure they're putting it down to him just starting but I fear he won't improve as it becomes more familiar.

Is this something that he will grow out of - he's been at home with me until now so I'm hoping pre-school will teach him how to socialise better. It would be so nice to go to a play group and actually relax, or to walk up to the school gates without cringing with dread about how he might have behaved...

IT WILL PASS ... for my ds1 it took 2 years ! I was always one step behind him as he was a biter and a wacker .. even had other mothers declare to me what a little so and so he was. It was a nightmare, but I can now report he is a delightful and sensitive teenager with a whole new set of issues He is mortified when I tell him about his little antics back then

Can't tell you when it will end as we are still going through it. My LO is 2.5 months. Its rubbish isn't it?! Just wanted to let you know there are A LOT of mums going through this too!
