Ds off to sleep no trouble.

Has been since put into a bed from a cot
we do the no eye contact thing and just say 'bed' and take her back

I did star chart and present on Saturday for 7 stars. Worked a treat for 4yo ds2 and 3yo ds1. Alarm clock for them so they know when they can come is also helpful.

but how would a star chart work as she never stays in bed so how would she get her first star?!!

sorry should have said thanks

star chart worked fab with potty training cos as soon as she wee'd on potty we whooped and clapped and she got her sticker

but how do you whoop and clap when she never stays in bed?

or do you do it in the morning even though the night before she got up 50 times?

dh says we should wait until she is sound asleep and then wake her up and whoop and clap for going to sleep., ha!

I think morning is too long after the event for a 3 year old - particularly as, like you say, you have to wait for her to be good first.

Trying to think of ideas...

You could put a stairgate on the door?

Mooncupflowethover · 17/11/2009 21:22

Definitely a stairgate!! I use one on DS1's room (he's 2.7) as he kept on getting up in the middle of the night and waking the whole house up!!

He screamed the first, second and third night (obviously, we didn't leave him screaming, we took him back to bed on numerous occasions) and by the end of the week he accepted it was there and he couldn't get out. Absolutely no problems since, works like a dream, he sleeps really well and so do we!

With my star chart I banged on for a couple of days before about how they had to stay in bed to get a star. Then the first night when they did get up I reminded them that they wouldn't get a star unless they ran back to bed and stayed there. By the second or third night they'd stopped getting up. It's been about 6 weeks now and all 3 children stay in bed all night unless they're ill. Pretty exciting after 8 years of broken nights!
