The dreaded hair wash.........help!

My dd was a water birth and for the first 6 months she loved water all over her head and face. Then all of a sudden she hated it.

Now she's 2yo and the fear of hair washing is getting to the point where she'll hurt herself to avoid it. I only do it twice a week so it's not like we have a screaming fit every night.

I have tried, one of those head band things to stop the water going in her eyes but she hates it and pulls it off. I've got in the bath with her and washed my hair at the same time. She didn't mind the shower at first but soon hated that too even when I'm in it with her.

I make bath time really fun and she loves getting in, but as soon as the water touches her head she'll start clawing at her face, I'm scared she'll scratch her eyes.

The thing is, it really needs washed more as she won't take any food from me, she has to feed herself and it regularly ends up in her hair.

Help.....

Try the special jugs for hairwashing that cost about £7 from Mothercare. Has a special squishy part to mold onto head and prevent water running down face. Also has a picure of a non-crying child on the front which we kept drawing attention to. It worked for us. Good luck.

Didn't realise how common this was! We too had a screaming DS on our hands when it came to hairwashing. We tried the wet flannel and the special jug too (he is fine with swimming) but he hated it and would pull away, scream, try to climb out of the bath etc!! I finally would have to rinse off as much as poss with the flannel and then do one final massive rinse which usually involved a quick drench and then have a towel to wipe his face afterwards we then tried goggles and that worked a treat but amazingly last week, he actually poured water over his own head and he was happy for water to be dribbling down his face He's now 2 and a bit and I think(?) the control aspect works with him and he's been absolutely fine since - tho we still restrict hairwashing to 1/2 x per wk!

We wet the hair using the big really soft sponges with enough water squeezed out so it doesn't drip - takes a few goes and doesn't go anywhere near the face. then add the shampoo and rub it around etc - all done while they're playing. Then repeat the sponge process to get as much shampoo out as poss and then I just get a big jug and say 'right 1-2-3' and then pour it over the head and then she screams and I do another quick one and it's all over. Sponge ready to wipe eyes and then quick distract on to another toy....

Honestly though I think you could easily do just water hair washes with a sponge in the bath unless it starts to smell and then a one off shampoo until the next stink?
