My DD has just turned 2 and well overdue going into her new single bed. I didn't want to do it over Christmas as didn't want her to have disturbed sleep. But, am now dreading it as I'm rubbish when I've had a bad night's sleep!! She's a brilliant sleeper and goes down easily for 12 hours, but am really worried that this is all going to end. Does anybody have any magic suggestions please? The bed isn't up yet, so am planning on doing a grand unveiling on Saturday afternoon, so she gets really excited about it, just before getting into it for the first time! If anyone can offer me any reassurance or advice, I'd be really grateful!

Thank you

it may go very smoothly - ds1 was fine with it, ds2 was a bit more of a wanderer, but a few nights of straight back to bed, no messing, sorted him out.

Well tonight is her last night in her cot. We have had 2 really bad nights with her, so we are going for it tomorrow.
Will report back on Sunday for those interested.

Thank you SOOOO much for all of your comments. I decided to bite the bullet today and go ahead, but I didn't make a huge surprise out of it all. I let her watch as DH built the bed (had to cover her ears with all the swearing!!!!), and then she LOVED her new cupcake duvet cover, and slept like a baby for an hour at lunchtime and actually ASKED to go to bed at 7.30 and fell asleep better than ever before. Fingers crossed she never learns that she can actually get out.....!

Thanks for all your advice.

Great news!
We got dd (2.7) a big girl's bed for Christmas, in preparation for her baby brother or sister arriving. She was an angel for almost a month, first in her Grobag, then without it, then one night she 'realised' she could get out of bed, and we put her back 40 times before she'd stay put.... we then caught her halfway down the stairs at 3am in the pitch black so up went the stairgate again which we got rid of months ago.

She then insisted on going back in the cot (which we'd dismantled and put in the loft) so we got the travel cot down and she slept happily in that for a few nights.

We then put a bed guard up on the non wall facing side of the bed, and told her it was a 'big girl's cot'. She went back in it happily, back in her Grobag (which really deters them from getting out although they can still waddle) and hasn't got out at night since.
