Mr Tumble has completely freaked dd out.

Dd is 19mo, and on Boxing Day, we watched a new Something Special DVD. There is a particular episode where Mr. Tumble dresses up as a baby. The camera pans to a moses basket, peers inside, and it's Mr. Tumble, pretending to be a baby and crying.

Dd jumped and started crying, I can only assume she expected to see an actual baby in there. She went on and on and on about it all day, and is still mentioning it now. She doesn't seem visibly distressed, and we took her to see my BF's baby yesterday to show her that babies are lovely, and not scary. She is still occasionally mentioning it though, and telling me that the 'baby is gone', I think because we were saying, 'no dd, it's fine, it's gone now'.

Is she weird? Or is this normal when something spooks them?

Disclaimer: I am very neurotic.

I'm still scared of Bagpuss at 35 and Mr Tumble is very odd indeed!!!!

I remember getting scared of Bagpuss because I was watching it when I was ill and had a high temperature and I think I hallucinated him coming out of the screen .

Is there any chance your dd could be ill?

Dropdeadfred · 31/12/2008 09:46

my dd is justin/mr tumble's biggest fan - always has been. But the baby episode made her howl and run

Pinkjennybellrock · 31/12/2008 09:52

That's good You want to head over to the cbeebies parents board, they are always having this sort of conversation. Actually don't we like you being here!

Pinkjennybellrock · 31/12/2008 10:12

What? I'm sorry. What?

My dd was scared of Mr Tumble for about 6 months ,my older dc found it highly amusing to shout "Mr Tumbleeeeeeeeee" .

She loves him now .

Pinkjennybellrock · 31/12/2008 10:37

I'm still confused about what whomovedmychocolate said.

I think she meant "don't go [to cbeebies], as we like you being here." You may have been misled (mizzled) by the punctuation.

OMG have just seen this thread, I knew what episode you were talking about before I read your OP! dd COMPLETELY freaked out when she saw that episode. She must have been about 2 at the time, DH and I still laugh about it . I was just about to give birth to ds and took her reaction very personally at the time Thankfully it was only wierdo baby tumble and not ds that freaked her out

whomovedmychocolate · 31/12/2008 16:38

Yep that's what I meant, I had two screaming monkeys jumping on me at the time - sorry about that - thanks UnquietDad - you wouldn't know I was an editor for ten years now would you?

HollyCherry · 31/12/2008 17:09

I think it was exactly the same episode that put my DD off when she was about the same age. She's 4 now and has only just started watching anything with him in again!

bran · 31/12/2008 17:31

I'm with bobsyu, I knew it was going to be this episode. It's the only Mr Tumble thing that ever upset DS. The first time he saw it was sort of OK, but after that he used to cry because he knew the 'baby' was going to cry soon.

Pinkjennybellrock · 02/01/2009 09:41

I think we should all pen a letter to the BBC regarding this outrageous episode!
