My dd is 12 months old and still does not clap, wave point or do any kind of imitation. I have 2 other children and both had speech delays and had some late milestones but they did imitate at this stage. Im concerned about possible signs of asd.
Things she can do
Make eye contact from far but does not like close up
Babbling mama dada but not in context
Crawling
Cruising whilst holding onto something
Enjoys peekabo if I do it
Enjoys nursery rhymes if i sing it but does not copy the actions
Recognises when I leave the room and will either follow me or cry
Listens to her name about 50 percent of the time

She cannot yet
Clap
Wave
Point
No joint attention
Not walking
No other gestures
Shakes head a lot
Broken sleep every night

She scored very low in her 12 month review however Hv said to wait until shes 16 months and then go back if shes still not doing these things.
I am really worried as lack of gestures are usually red flags. Has anyone else's 12 months old had no gestures but eventually caught up?

Hi @Dolly1992 when you say she scored very low in her 12 month check, do you know how she scored? Scoring in the grey on one or two areas is fairly normal, they’re definitely not supposed to score white in every section.

Did your LO score in the grey in more than two areas or did she score in the black in any area?

If you’re not sure how she scored, you could try doing the assessment again?

Did your HV also ask you to fill in the 12 month Social & Emotional Ages & Stages. If not, I think it’s worth doing that one yourself. If your LO scores under 50 then I’d just take it with you to the next review with your HV. If they score over 50 then you’ll need to contact the HV sooner and get a referral to a Paediatrician.

One thing that might help is doing this progress checker from Speech & Language UK. If it says that she needs some support, they will email you some resources to help her with communication Flowers

This is too early for a diagnosis or any assessment because some children reach their milestones later than others, so there is no strict timeline of achieving them.
Apart from this, a good sign is that she have reached a few milestones so hopefully she will reach others too maybe later. If your other two kids have speech delay then it could be possible that she also get delayed speech so observe her.
