Eight-month-old constantly flapping arms and getting overstimulated, anyone experienced similar?

As the title suggests, for the last month my 8 month old has started to constantly flap his arms when sat up, seems to do it whether he’s happy, sad or frustrated. Just wondering if anyone had any similar experience as when I googled it mentioned early sign of Austim.

He also seems to get very easily stimulated when out and about, again flapping arms and shrieking loudly. I know these things are normal at this stage it’s just the frequency and then after the google search I’ve gone into overthinking mode.
when attending baby groups of babies with similar ages I don’t notice other babies doing it a lot

As this is stuck in your mind now, you automatically start to compare it with other children but it is not neccesary that your child would be autistic. You should not overthink but keep observing your child and his behaviors with time. If you notice any odd behavior for a longer period or which is getting unmanageable, you should get him checked once and get behavioral therapy because the sooner it starts, the easier it gets to handle.

Yeah my son did this till he was about 1 ! Then it stopped. He's not got Autism or anything. He used to be the only one doing it at the baby class 😆 xx

Hey my ASD DS5 used to flap his hands from 4months onwards and i knew he had ASD and no one believed me.

i guess my question is...is this he only thing yours does? Or are there lots of other little things?

by itself it is very common at this age but its the frequency and whether its constant for a few months etc he could just be an excitable fella.

i have a 7m who flapped his hands 3weeks ago obsessively but has now completely stopped, so naturally im worried about him too now

he does seem to be stimming with his wrists as well at times too, just hard to know what is normal at this age.
Definitely the arm flapping was the thing that I noticed the most because he does it soo much and then now

Both hand flapping and wrist turning fall into the category of normal baby behaviour at 8 months and unless there is other behaviour concerning you, I’d not worry about these two things at all. Hand flapping and wrist turning only really become a concern after around 18 months, until then, it’s just what babies do.
