8 month old rolling and rocking but not yet crawling

Hello!

my 8 month old baby has been pivoting, rolling either side very fast to get around, rocking on hands and knees (only in the night though in her cot, can’t do it in the day on her playmat). I was wondering how long until she will crawl? She seems she can’t get her knees under her belly in the day. This is my first baby so not very sure, I know every bay is different!

My daughter at 8 months was rolling, pivoting, putting herself in seating position, and didn't start crawling until a few days until turning 10 months. She was able to move around enough for her needs, and didn't prioritise crawling. In general, she didn't move onto a new motor skill until she was confident enough in what she was already able to do.
My son, on the other hand, didn't quite master a motor skill and he was already moving onto the next. Moving seems much more important to him.
It's hard to predict when they'll develop a new skill, because - at least in my experience - their own temperament really plays a role!

I think crawling has been taken out the milestones because they’re not just all different, the time they crawl is just so bloody random that you can’t guess.

Have a look at the gross motor skills on the 8 month Ages & Stages. It just said that she should be getting into the crawling position, which you’ve said she does in her cot. Even then, babies aren’t expected to score in the white in every section. Scoring grey in one or two areas is perfectly acceptable Smile
