My almost 3-yr old son told nursery that his father hit him

I am in a bit of shock. My ds (2 years 10m) is so close and affectionate to us. We spend a lot of time together as a family and we might have pampered him more than healthy as well.

Today, when my husband dropped ds at nursery, nursery manager called him into her room. She shared that my ds has a scar on his hand and when asked, he said that his dad hit him. They called in my ds inside, the scar they were referring to was a mark from probably an old scratch. It was a very mild one, that we almost never noticed of its existance.

Firstly, I am in shock. Cannot believe that my ds who clings onto us, could say this. Maybe he doesn't even know what he said means. Nevertheless, Is this common? How do other parents deal with this?

My partners is less in shock. For the past few weeks, my ds has been telling similar stories everyday - "xx from his nursery pushed him/hit him"

Not had the same situation, but kind of similar. My nearly 3 year old was telling me that he and his nursery friends were doing something naughty. So I asked his nursery teachers and they said they’ve never noticed any of them doing it. They said that around this age their imagination is working well and they’re not lying as such, they’re just saying things, probably without really knowing if it’s real or not.
I imagine your sins nursery would take it a bit more seriously as it relates to a child being hit. But I think if there’s no other risk factors that they’ve noticed then it’s something they won’t be super worried about.
I think kids just say random things sometimes. I wouldn’t worry too much.
Don’t know if that’s the best advice but didn’t want to just read and run.
