3 month old all of a sudden startling every time we put him down or pick him up?

I’ve tried to have a search to see if anyone else has experienced this but can’t seem to find anything other than for sleep issues startling babies awake but this happens when DS is awake!

for the past couple of days we’ve noticed he will look really startled (eyes go wide, flails arms and goes rigid, just like the Moro reflex) every time or at least most times we try to put him down (change nappy, on mat to play, in his bouncer, etc) and sometimes even upon picking him up.

he seems otherwise fine but he never did this before unless he was sleeping and we transferred him or if we perhaps moved him too quickly.

has anyone else experienced this, should we be worried? I feel awful now every time I handle him and I’m becoming scared to put him down!

Any advice would be appreciated

I’ve heard that the more tummy time they do, and the stronger they get the less the Moro reflex is active. How’s tummy time going for you? Mine hates it and the reflex is strong a lot of the time, especially when she sleeps but also when we change nappy.

Admittedly we haven’t been doing much tummy time on the floor :/ he holds his head up almost constantly when we hold him though and I count that as tummy time

Oh it definitely does count! We’ve been trying to do little but often with baby even if it’s 4 minutes it all adds up and I’m hoping it will help with the reflex 🤞🏻 If you find the magic trick please let me know, this mum is tired 😂

😂 same here I think we’ve hit an early sleep regression so no sleep for me anymore lol.

since I’ve posted the reflex has lessened actually, but it was really bad for a few days for some reason he looked wide eyed and petrified every time he was put on his back.. weird
