Hello. I’m posting to see if anyone has experienced anything similar to this.

My little boy is 1 in a couple of weeks and since he turned 10 months old he has been doing this thing where when he lies on his back on the floor, and he rolls on his side and stiffens his whole body and goes slightly red in the face. Sometimes he will be holding onto a toy whilst he’s doing this, or if his hands are empty he holds both hands but his whole body is completely tensed. This can last anywhere from 2 seconds to probably 20 seconds and then he will return to playing with a toy and then go back to doing it again.

He is present when doing this and I can distract him out of it. Some days he barely does it at all, and other days like today, he does it regularly. I can’t identify a pattern to it.

I have been to the GP about it and he has advised he isn’t concerned (I showed him some videos) and that he doesn’t believe it to be a seizure. I’m just slightly confused as to what it is and whether anyone else has had a similar experience.

Oh, poor love! Did they consider whether it could be his bowels? It’s hard to say without seeing it happening, but it sounds from your description like he could be straining.

The fact you can distract him out of it at least means it’s probably not a neurological issue 🙏🏻

They did ask about digestive issues but I’ve noticed him doing it in the afternoon and in the morning he would have done a poo, so I don’t think it’s linked to that. He doesn’t seem in any distress whilst doing it either.

Yes from watching it, I don’t think it’s neurological which is reassuring.
