Is this babbling? Baby is 8 months old next week.

I’m not sure what exactly is meant by babbling or when it is supposed to be present. DD is a week away from turning eight months old. She will make sounds such as:

Ah
Eh-lee-ya
Ah-did-yeh
Eej
Nnnn- guh

But we haven’t had anything like mama/dada - no streams of repetitions etc.

I take it the sounds above aren’t cooing but if she’s not babbling either then what exactly is going on with her language please?!

She also can do a little Zhuzh sound (like when you ‘Zhuzh something up’)

I think the communication section on the 8 month Ages & Stages might be helpful here. Don’t worry if they score in the grey section. If they score in the black for that section then you’ll need to show your HV the result and ask for a hearing test. I do suspect though that everything is fine Smile

I think this is a stage that sometimes appears in between cooing and strictly-defined 'babbling'. Apparently it's often easier to say a sound at the end of 'word' (or rather, set of sounds) than at the beginning. She is making consonant sounds, so whilst it's worth doing the check, I suspect classic ba-ba-ba, ga-ga-ga type babbling will emerge fairly soon.

I remember commenting to DH that our eldest wasn't doing the repetitive sounds things, and then she spent most of the next day going ba-ba-ba!
