Clingy 1 year old is driving me crazy

My daughter who is turning 1 next week is the clingiest child I have ever know. She’s always been hard work, multiple allergies/cmpa , a horrendous sleeper , hardly eats etc etc but I’ve recently gone back to work and I don’t know if it’s because of that or just bad timing developmentally but the last few weeks she is unbelievably clingy, to the point she has to be carried around at ALL times.

I have a 3 year old son whoes recently potty trained so it’s a nightmare, every time I put her down to even wipe my sons bum she is hysterical I’ve honestly never heard anything like it. The screaming is deafening. She will only play if I am sat on the floor with her and even then she climbs on my lap once she’s got a toy. She’s much better if we are out at soft play or swimming, she will then happily play on her own (without needing to be carried) I know this is probably normal but my god it’s exhausting.

we’ve had a tough year and I’ve found going from 1 to 2 extremely hard mentally, especially as she has only just started sleeping better and she still has lots of allergic flare ups so we aren’t fully on top of that yet. I just thought by 1 she would be coming into her own a bit.

during the week she is with me for 4 days, and then my MIL, a childminder for one day, and then my mum for one day. The childminder is struggling with her and has mentioned she’s really unsettled and cannot be put down. She said let’s see how it goes for the next few weeks so I have no idea if she is planning on telling me she can’t have her :(

any advice ? How long does it last? Of course I remember my son being clingy at times but never to this extreme

I have allergies and it's most likely that. They can make you utterly miserable.

Is she under a Paediatric Dietician and the Allergy Clinic? How does she react if she's had some antihistamine?

I only really give her antihistamines if I can tell she’s in an active flare up which would be sneezing coughing eyes streaming. I hadn’t thought to give them other than that but that could definitely be worth a try. It’s more the not being able to put her down, she’s quite happy when she’s held. It kills my back putting her in a carrier but it’s impossible to even make my sons breakfast. So tiring.

we are seeing the paediatrician for our first appointment in a few weeks.
