Since about five months my little boy opens and closes his hands quickly while straightening his arm and sometimes his legs. Is this a normal behaviour or is it an early indicator of possible autism ?

I'm not sure why it would be a sign of ASD?

Is that something that you're particularly concerned about? Flowers

I suppose I see it as a form of stimming which is often a trait of those with ASD ?

I'm not an expert but this sounds like perfectly ordinary baby behaviour..

Are there other things going on that are making you think about ASD?

I’ve never noticed any other babies doing it either

I wouldn't say 7 months is slow to wean. I had one with Tongue Tie who could only tolerate purées until they were one and the second one who didn't seem to make the connection between having good and feeling full for ages, just wanted milk every time they were hungry.

All babies seem to do weird stuff like yours is doing with their arm. Stimming isn't even really a sign of ASD unless they're older and even then there woukd have to be a lot of other things going on as well to get anywhere near an assessment.

The best thing you can do is to do plenty of activities with him, swimming, the park, put things on his tray in his high chair or on the floor for him to play with and look up on Pinterest for activities to try with a 7 month old Wink

Thank you so much ! I will definitely look for more activities to do with him
