Baby has high pitched unusual cry

Hi, my LO is 16 weeks and I'm getting more and more worried about his vocalisation. He doesn't seem to cry with the typical, low pitched cough cough then repeated wah was of other babies. He likes to fuss and whine with an errgghhh erghhh sound and even worse, high pitched squealing and shrieking. He does this with seemingly little provocation and is often seemingly unhappy or grouchy, although he is also happy and smiley, eye contact etc.

I feel so panicky and embarrassed at baby groups as it's really loud and clearly not the sound other babies are making. There hace been comments. Obviously I've googled it and have seen all the articles about autism and brain injury / genetic issues so have made an appointment with GP. Just wondering if anyone else out there has baby with unusual cry like this and did they have any issues? I'm going out my mind with worry.

Thanks

Does he sounds like a cat miaowing? There is a very rare syndrome Cri du Chat, where the baby cry sounds like a cat miaowing The children have a set of features that a geneticist would pick up on easily, although not obvious to anyone not familiar with it.
However it may well be your baby just has his own particular cry :) especially if he is developing ok so please don't panic!

If there’s no other concerns I would worry too much. I genuinely could not believe how loud my second child’s cry was when he was born, I remember him screaming literally screaming in the hospital after being born and overhearing other parents talking about how loud he was behind their curtains. If I’m being honest I remember sitting that first night and just thinking what the hell have I done?! Thankfully he settled down into a happy boy but he still has a ridiculously loud cry at almost 2!
