Is my 5 year old spoilt / ungrateful

5th birthday party today. Lots of gifts (around 20) one from each child at the party.

We left the party, DC wants to open them straight away, whining, kicking off. We say no and go for some lunch.

We get home and they are excited to open their presents so we sit down and open them, I'm trying to do it in a calm way so I can make a note of who bought what so I can thank them.

All DC wants to do is open them as quickly as possible, we say let's have a break and they whine. Is this normal? Are they selfish / spoilt?

Once presents are open plays with a couple of thinks and agrees I can put some away for rainy days etc.

I feel really embarrassed and am sort of dreading Christmas where there may be other family members around watching.

What would you do in this situation? How do you teach gratitude? Are they too young to know this?

I doubt any 5 year old would be happy to open presents slowly and then be expected to take a break part way through 😅
