DS is 2.7

He says WHY to everything.

Me: DS, would you like to go to the park?
DS: Why?

Me: Look, your hands are covered in mud. Let's wash them.
DS: Why?
Me: Because they're dirty.
DS: Why?
Me: Because you were playing at the park.
DS: Why?
Me: Let's just wash them.
DS: Why?

Me: Which shoes would you like to wear?
DS: Why?

Me: Brown Bear, brown bear, what do you see? DS: Whyyyy?

I have tried to be patient and reasonable and answer properly whenever I can. But it's so stupid now. All I want to do is shout, "BECAUSE I bloody well SAID SO"

I've asked nicely if he can stop saying why to everything. But it just comes out without him even thinking.

This has been going on for months and it's no longer endearing. I tried to be nice. But it's got me on the verge of tears today (ok there is other stuff going on but I can't cope with any more "Whys"

Please, what can I do?

You can tell my ds hasn't been doing the questions for that long as I am actually quite enjoying explaining stuff to him. He was a bit of a late talker too so I'm pleased to hear him doing it.

I'm sure soon I too will tire of the 'who is that lady'/ 'what's that for' 'why ' etc etc very soon but at the moment I find it endearing!

Oh, yes, I remember this stage too. I start by explaining why and going trhough increasingly more outrageous explanations. Totally agree that at some stage it becomes more of a verbal tick than a genuine question.

Yes, verbal tic It is a relfex, I think. When he is genuinely interested, he asks in a full sentence. This afternoon was much better

Thank you.

my nephew went through this, I just used to say "dunno", he soon realised I was dim and there was no point asking me anything
