Hi My dd is 3 in May and wears age 6 clothes and size 12.5 shoes. She is healthy and very tall - no probs in terms of development etc

I wondered if any others had dcs who were tall etc as sometimes feel am only parent with a giant!!!

Katsh, I was also worried about the body odour signifying early puberty, but 2 years on it hasn't happened My DD was also the only one in her class using deodorant when she was 8, although at 10 quite a lot seem to. Not sure whether they need it or if they just like to feel grown up but it's nice that she's no longer the only one.

Sorry, can't help with the tracksuit pants.

My dd1 is tall for her age, she is 6 and wears 8-9 years clothes, dd2 & 3 are tiny though. Dd2 is 3 and only now starting to wear 2-3 and dd3 is 7 months and still in 3-6 months with sleeves rolled up!!

bigdonna · 25/04/2008 10:36

both my kids are talla nd got big feet.my ds is 5ft 1inches at 10 my dd was nine this week and is 140 cms tall and has size 3 feet my ds has had size 7 feet since age 9.

My dd is almost 7, and wears age 12 clothes. She's very long in the body so we can get away with age 10 trousers in some styles - but to get the waist size I usually have to buy bigger and chop the legs off.

I do find that manufacturers expect the children who wear those sizes to have a more teenage shape, so I can't find jeans or trousers with zips to fit her - her waist doesn't go in where an 11 or 12 year old's does. And the neckline and sleeves in tops are usually much too big - but smaller sizes just aren't long enough in the body.

I have often found that people expect more from her than she has been able to give, but a gentle reminder of her age has always been sufficient to stop problems.

I haven't noticed any body odour yet ... but I did notice this week that her breasts seem to be starting to develop, so I guess puberty is on its way!

My DS was born tiny.... like reallllllllly tiny. Then at 3 months he spiked and spiked and spiked the chart some more. He is now 4 and just moving into 6-7 year clothing. The gas man called yesterday, and asked why he wasnt in school.

Mmmmm.....

But my DD also born tiny, has remained spot on the 50th percentile, and really is just like a dolly, lots of curls and a real cheeky smile!

hertsnessex · 25/04/2008 19:27

my ds's are 3 and 4 and wear age 6 clothes. they are big boys - but im 5' 10 and dh is 6' 3 (i think!) so they were never going to be small. ds2 does have a bit of a tummy still, but i think he will shoot up again and loose it.

Tinker · 25/04/2008 19:33

My just 11 year-old is about 5'2" (not sure if this is especially tall) but she's a head above all her friends. And wears the same shoe size as me! She was 7lb at birth. My youngest, however, at nearly 3 can still fit some 18-24 month clothes and was 6lb 13oz. Different dads but dad of teh younger one is taller than the dad of teh eldest one.

cali · 25/04/2008 19:44

My DD1 has just turned 3 and has been wearing age 4-5 clothes for the last few months. Her shoes are size 10. Have been asked quite a few times recently about why she's not in school. Was 10lbs 2oz at birth and always tracked along the 91st centile.

canella · 25/04/2008 20:21

My ds1 (3 1/2)is really tall for his age (but he was 10lbs 13oz at birth so its no great surprise!!) but i really feel for him when we're out. He's been quite a late speaker but because he's so tall, people try and have bigger conversations than he can deal with. i've spent the last 6 months saying "he's only 3"!!!
i do worry how big he'll be by the time he goes to school on 2009! i'm sure some education department person will think i'm letting him play truant before then!!

bigmouthstrikesagain · 25/04/2008 21:57

Hello I have two tall and well built children - DD is 2 and wears 3-4 clothes has been on 98%ile for height and completely off the charts for weight since around a month old(but I think she is back to around the 98-100 for weight now). Ds is also 91-98%ile height and weight and regularly wears 5-6 yo clothing despite only being 3(4 in August).

I am 5'8" and was also tall as a child mistaken regularly for and older child etc. my Dh on the other hand is several inches shorter than I and is very pleased to have such tall children. I think he had a tough time at school being small(good job he was fast). Despite the issues over clothes and expectations being higher etc. I am very glad to have big healthy children and wouldn't have them any other way.

I do worry about dd sometimes as I am aware of unwanted attention too early from older men etc. as i experienced as a tall, skinny, awkward but quite womanly shaped 12yo. That is years away for dd yet.

BlinkingNoraWotzThat · 25/04/2008 22:04

Ye I think manufacturers should make more effort in providing a better way to size clothes other than by age.

I can't buy anything unless they are with me to try it on. I gave up doing so about 2 years ago. Complete waste of time and effort.

AlienEars · 25/04/2008 22:10

DD has always been on the 99th centile for weight and height since birth.

I bought some M&S summer dresses in the sale at Christmas, thinking I was playing safe ordering them to fit an 11 year old. She tried them on last week and they just do up, but she couldn't move her arms - she's 7 and 3 months (and a size 2 shoe as well).

purplejennyrose · 25/04/2008 22:10

My dd was quite small at birth though she was a week and a half early - she was 25th centile for weight, and between 25th and 9th for height. She has shot up (and down - her weight chart is a classic example of how babies don't follow a perfect curve!!) and at nearly 2, looks 3 and wears 3-4 yr clothes a lot, especially tops. She is a very sturdy girl! People meeting her are usually surprised at her age. I am very small - but dh is 6'3" and ex-rugby...
Currently expecting dd2 and intrigued to see what her physique will be like...

petetong · 25/04/2008 22:13

My dd is 12 and 5 foot 3 inches. I am 5 foot 9 and dh is 6 ft 3. When she was younger the height difference seemed very pronounced, but as she has got older her friends have caught up and there isn't a huge amount of difference now. She has used deoderant for proper bo for 2 years but shows no other real signs of puberty. She was 9lb 6oz at birth. DD 9lb 10oz at birth tall but never really caught up with dd although only 18 months between.

Twoddle · 26/04/2008 10:03

DS (3, nearly 4) was on the 50th centiles for weight and height when he was born. He dropped to the 25th for weight at four months, and then soared up to the 91st for weight and 98th for height soon after weaning started (my boobs are tiny ) and has stayed there. Getting clothes to fit is interesting, as age 3-4 trousers fit waist but not leg length; age 4-5 trousers are long enough but fall down! 5-6 T-shirts always fit fine though.

All the men in my family are huge, so that must be where it comes from. DS's dad's only the same height as me though (5'8"), so expects to be towered over one day.

Agree with another poster about others (and, TBH, even sometimes us) having greater expectations of DS than is fair. He articulates himself really well, so he can sometimes fool us into believing he's older than he is - and then he'll behave exactly like a three-year-old IYKWIM, as if to remind us.

I was 5'7" and size 14 clothes, size 7 feet when I was 10! Then I slowed down - I was always the biggest in the class.
My DD is 18 months and is in age 2-3 clothes - everyone comments on how tall she is.
