My son takes hours to fall asleep at night.

I have a two year old son. I’ve really been struggling with his sleep lately. I have a calm sleep routine which consists of: warm milk about half an hour before, calm music, no screen time, nappy change, pyjamas, then a couple of stories. I’ve always done this. My son has always struggled with his sleep from an early age. It improved, but now it’s gone downhill again. I can see that he’s tired, but he just fights to stay awake. I’m at a loss. Could someone please offer me some advice?

Hello, your not alone on this, my son is also 2 will be 3 next feb and he doesn't sleep the best at night either, still awake till 11 maybe midnight sometimes later..we have tried everything that you have done...I think we are going to try and start getting him up earlier, he goes nursery in the morning for a few hours and then a hour nap when home but that's it..hope you start seeing an improvement soon..maybe try bathing him before his bottle

How long does he nap for in the day @WiseRoseRaven and what time does he get up in the morning?

Thanks for answering. He naps about 1-1/2 an hour each day. It used to be longer. And he gets up at around 7am.

Hi, thank you so much for replying. I’ll try a bath before his milk. I hope you see improvements too!

Ok so the nap and wake times sound about right. Is he getting plenty of outdoor play during the day? There is a direct link between sunlight and night sleep.

I do sympathise though. Both of mine have ADHD and sleep has been an issue for a long time. You do get find out what works though as they get older.

One thing that worked for my youngest was a light show with music.
