If your child has ADHD or ASD how were they at 3 years old?

My son has always been hyper, on the go, fidgety and boisterous. However, he’s so polite, gentle and kind to other children. He is speech delayed, he speaks more like a 2 year old, a few sentences with lots of words. He’s always been behind with communication since 12 month review. Hes so forward physically, he can swim, jump from high places and never injures himself, climb, run so fast and build things. He’s so independent and has preferred playing along rather than with me. I can sit and watch but doesn’t like much input from me. He gets overwhelmed easily by situations that are loud, like a loud live show with music, he covers his hands with ears. He responds better to you if you’re over exaggerating or super excited. I’m wondering if these are some traits of ADHD or ASD? We are seeing a speech therapist, we’ve had one assessment and she mentioned lack of attention span and waiting to see what the next step is.

Bumping for you because I was about to ask the same question about my 2 year old. Physically he's so advanced and literally never stops moving. The only time he's ever slightly still is if he gets hyper focused on something. He also seems delayed with speech as though he babbles he doesn't have any words at all. His childminder has even said that she's never had a child who is on the go so much and she's been doing it for 17 years 😳 I'd like to know too how children with ADHD diagnosis now we're at this age. Sorry for hijacking your thread but you honestly described my son to a tee. Hopeful bump for you

Thankyou!

My Son was just like yours when he was 2. Only babbling then started saying words at 2 &1/2. First said Mummy which I thought I’d never hear! His words really progressed from there and then came short sentences.
He goes to nursery 5 mornings a week now he’s 3 and he absolutely loves it, they love having him too but have mentioned they noticed how fidgety he is too sometimes. We have an amazing SENCo there who can help identify any needs or support he might need too. I think it’s it’s so hard to not worry, I go from thinking he’s just a boy, he’s full of energy to then thinking it’s ADHD. It’s exhausting isn’t it?! I hope we can get some advice and experiences here!

My little one goes to a childminder 3 days a week and as I explained to her my worries about the delay in speech she is doing lots of exercises with him to see if he'll show any progression at all. She actually told me to get a referral for a hearing test to rule any hearing issues out but I'm mostly worried about the possibility of ADHD because he is just so on the go constantly. Like your son he's also so gentle and kind with other children so that's good but I'd just love to know how other 2-3 year olds presented at this point
