Speech Therapy - has it helped anyone?

My ds (3.5yr twin) has got a speech delay. Alot of people find it difficult to understand him. He has a wide vocab but is not clear. To make matters worse since November he has had 5 ear infections which has meant he is going to have grommits. I am meeting with my HV on Monday and want to suggest speech therapy - has anyone had experience of this and how does it work etc.
Thanks

colditz mum your ds sounds a bit like my dd when she was referred, a lot at my insistence but also with the Hv failing her at her 2y development test that was done 3 mths early as were moving...
A good way to look at it is for reassurance
I see progs on TV abut kids 18m + and see friends kids who are younger and our dd is nowhere near a lot of them in speech, it is worrying I know but it does come together in time

im sure once he has the grommits fitted he will probably realise hed been missing off the beginnings of words because he couldnt hear them therefore he thought that was what it sounded like! this may be the case..good luck anyway

just to let you know it was confirmed yesterday that both twins would benefit from speech therapy and so are being referred together. Hopefully we will have as much success as you have all experienced. . Thanks for all your tips etc.
