What the title says really, 2 month old (8+5) has never shown indications of hearing. She passed the newborn test, but since then has never startled at a sound or seemed to obviously notice one. The GP picked it up when trying to persuade her to turn her head by making noises abd he started asking me.To be honest I had no idea it might be an issue- had read they startled at noises and simply assumed she didn't care about noises for whatever reason. She startles all the time at sudden movements.

I do sometimes think she's responding more gently to a noise, say by blinking or moving, but am never quite sure if it's a fluke as I can't get her to replicate the 'response'.

We've got a hospital audiology referral for 3 weeks time and in the meantime am trying not to catastrophise that she may be deaf (I know it wouldn't be the end of the world if she is, but it's the uncertainty, if you see what I mean) but am wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

(As it happens we saw a pediatrician the day after the GP for a follow up as she still had a tinge of jaundice till recently. She said its too early to tell anything but could be that there's a slight developmental delay for no sinister reason or waxy ears or something)

I guess I'm just looking for some reassurance that it could be nothing.

It could very well be something like Glue Ear. If it is, it there is another reason that she's not hearing you can join the National Deaf Children's Society and it's free.
