I've posted before regarding my son who appears ~midly to moderately speech delayed. He does use echolalia at times. Because of this, ASD has been suggested- so far no one has brought up any other issue with his behaviour that would suggest so and I have been analysing his every move since. He is in creche 5 days a week, interacts w his cousins, adults, 1:1 playdates (although WILL run out of steam after a few hours and will stop seeking interaction then and play by himself). The issue: we take him to little kickers, so a class set up. At the end there is circle time and they pass on a ball. He was totally zoned out. Just didn't engage. The kid next to him wanted to hand him the ball and he didn't react. They just moved past him then, he was oblivious. Have I just witnessed a clear sign that something is wrong with my boy???
